Peat, Peat, and more Peat

The boys wanted Peat to be their sheep...So he is.  They did a good job choosing.  He's a very good sheep.

Peat enjoys a fleece cleaning.

Find the human.  Hint: Peat is nibbling on it.

There he is!

One Tiny Ram

Feldspar is going to be one of our rams for the fall.  (He can't be the only ram; he's too related to some of the ewes.  We're still debating on who ram #2 will be.)   Feldspar still quite a little guy, but he's lovely.

Feldspar: like big brother Almond, but with good horns!

He is little, but he is nearly as big as Henrietta.

Henrietta & Feldspar

There's just something about white sheep this time of the year; they always look a little rough.  The white sheep start to look pretty in the early fall (ironically, right before the coats go on), and their fleeces clean up beautifully after shearing day.  But the dark colors -- like Olivine, Galena, and Peat --look good all year long.

Speaking of fleece colors... Marble has started to lighten up!  She's going to be very light gray-- perfect for a sheep named Marble.

Drinks and Naps, Interrupted

Even though it's been a long time, not much has been happening.  Zircon, Granite, and Slate have moved to another farm where they will specialize in growing fleeces.  It's a good job for a wether to have.

Our ram lambs--Malachite, Feldspar, and Chert--will have to move to the other pasture in a month or so (or be castrated).  Malachite is starting to look like a big boy act like one, too. Czadas was having a nice drink, when he ran up and got into her personal space.  Bossing Czadas around is not for the fainthearted sheep.

Czadas: Slurp, slurp

Malachite braves Czadas' (potential) wrath.

One of these things is not like the other...  Calico and her daughters Opal and Cashew were hanging out in the shade, chewing their cud.  They were joined by a white chicken (they do have names, but we can no longer remember who is who)...

Her genes are strong: Opal & Cashew with Momma Calico.

...Tricot and Molly told the chicken where she could go (out of the shade, or perhaps over by Tiffany).

Nap interrupted.

And another picture of Molly, just because she's cute (and her fleece is looking really good).
