One (Difficult) Little Ram

Cypress gets to stay on as a ram.  Why?  His markings are gorgeous, he's a twin, his fleece is a nice color, he was on the small side when he was born, his momma is Hazel (a very nice sheep herself)...  His behavior could ruin everything for himself.  If he only knew...

The problem is that Cypress likes to stick his head through the fence.  We get at least one lamb per year who does it.  This is the first year we've had a ram do it.  His horns get stuck.  I have no idea how he manages to get his head through the fence because it's practically impossible to remove it.

It won't be long until he's big enough that he can't do it at all.  Nevertheless, over the weekend we put up a low electric line on the inside of the fence.  So far, so good.

Sort of About Myrtle

Myrtle's splint was removed on Tuesday.  While waiting for the field vets to arrive, I quite a few pictures.  First up, some cuteness:

Acacia
Willow
Mesquite & Willow
Now for some faces that haven't been seen on the blog for a while:

Calico

Pistachio

Czadas
Tricot
It's a difficult time for pictures, because most of the white sheep look terrible.  Elsie, for example, will look great in August or September, but right now...not so much.

Poor Elsie.  I feel bad putting unflattering pics on the blog.
What did the sheep do while they were waiting?  Hazel scratched her hoof...

Hazel & the multipurpose trough.

...and played with Elvira.

Not a real fight (and not the most combatant of ewes)
All this pictures and I didn't manage to take one of Myrtle with her cast/splint off!

At Work

It's been busy here.  We have our normal early summer chores to do, and Cashew, Myrtle, and Mimosa are still in the barn.  Myrtle's splint came off yesterday, so they'll be out with (some of) the gang soon!

Filling up the water (and giving Sequoia a scratch)

Taking Cashew's water to the barn

Removing a thistle from the back field...

...you'd think it's the most fascinating thing ever.
