Lazy Days of Summer...

..are about over.  Soon, it will be time to put on the sheep coats again and do all the other fall tasks.  One of the first ones will be to separate the little rams from the ewes.

Hazel seems to approve of Chert.

Hopefully, Feldspar will stay sweet and gentle.

Everyone else is just hanging out, for the time being.

Yeti follows Scott around constantly.

Henrietta is still the fastest of the adult ewes.

Except for Barack O'Llama.  Today, he's been hard at work trimming the backyard.

Trees: trimmed.

Grass: mowed.

Boy Day

It was a big day for the boys today.

Colonel Brandon was toted around--wait, that happens frequently...

Feldspar chewed on my boots.  It doesn't happen very often--usually it's my legs.

He also enjoyed a good scratch (under the chin, of course!).  He loves a good scratch.

Daddy Gunpowder likes a scratch, but not quite as much as Feldspar.

He's more interested in the snacks.  Snacks are not something the boys in the Boy Field see often.   Gunpowder and Almond decided to submit to hoof trimming in order to get said snack.

Pecan decided not to participate.

Guess who's been taking her camera to the pasture?

Me!  I've been remiss most of the summer, so I'm trying to make up for it now.

Yeti is shocked.  He vaguely remembers seeing the camera when he was a wee little lamb.

"Be sure you capture my spotty ears!" - Yeti

Marble is shocked, too....But perhaps that's because she just voluntarily approached a human.

Hazel's progeny = shy sheep

Marble likely will grow out of her shyness.  Filly, Hazel's 2013 lamb, is quite friendly these days.

Filly, not my tiny shy girl any longer.

Chert makes sure I get a picture of his awesomeness.

"It's a shame they can't feel my fleece." - Chert
Big sister Cashew thinks I might have peanuts in addition to my camera...

"Do I smell peanuts?  Could it be?" -Cashew
 ...and she's right.

Acorn stretches for a peanut.

Elvira realizes her lambs are not with her.  (A rare occurrence! Malachite usually stays close by.)

Elvira, with other sheep's lambs.

"Yes, I did knock this tree down entirely by myself."  Dear Pistachio, it is a bush, and it was already dead.

Don't worry: She had our permission.

"I know nothing about any trees or bushes!"  -Macadamia.

"It wasn't me!" - Macadamia

I can't help but wondering what Tricot is thinking, and why it's so important that she didn't even finish her grass.  Maybe she saw Scott handing out peanuts?

Tricot: Practicing sheep meditation? Contemplating peanuts?

It's the llamas' turn

I haven't written a blog post about the llamas in a long time.  They might start to get cranky, at which point, I'd tell them they don't always behave.

Naughty llamas.
They would tell me that they are cute and friendly...

Nice llamas.

...and they always get along.  Always.

Snowball feeling friendly, and Barack O' is jealous.
If there's any doubt about that, they'd remind me how awesome they are at guarding their sheep.  Snowball multi-tasks...

Keeping an eye on the sheep while dust bathing.

"Is that a cow I see over there?"

...and Barack O'Llama stays with the sheep even when sorely tempted.  Today, he wouldn't even leave his charges for a banana.  (Although I'm a little suspicious that he just wanted to stay in the shade!)

Surrounded by his lambs.

"What?!?! You only brought one banana?"
